I originally got the idea for this short story when I was in the middle of writing "Endgame". In that book (which is still a work in progress), I introduced Dana's daughter and even though I've only currently written a handful of pages with her in it, I felt that she was too compelling of a character to have only one appearance in the series. At some point in time I'd like for Sarah to have her own series but in the meantime I thought it would be rather interesting to have her (who is from 20 years in the future) come back and meet Nightcat in the current time.

While I tried to stick with a reality based series, I liked this idea too much to just brush off due to time travel. And hopefully if I've done my job correctly as a writer and explain the reasoning well enough, it won't seem so out of place.
