Dana's last name was originally going to be named "Andrews" after Julie Andrews but was later changed to "Harker" as a homage to Mina Harker from "Bram Stoker's Dracula".
The style of writing in "The Darkness of Shadows" was inspired by Laurell K. Hamilton, but without the in-depth detail of the sex scenes.
Trinity's last name was named after Buffy's from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
The professor's last name was taken from a character in "Family Guy".
Raphael's personality was based partly on any of Tim Curry or Rufus Sewell's villainous roles. There is also mention of the similarities in their personalities.
Whitmoore's first name was originally going to be Vincent but was later changed to Victor.
Sorowski's name was inspired by Zerbrowski from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton
Kurt was named after Kurt Wagner, better known as Nightcrawler from X-Men
Nightcat was originally going to be named Black Cat until it was realized that Marvel Comics was already using that name for a character in the Spider-Man comic.
Nightcat and especially Raphael's body structures were both inspired by "Disney's Gargoyles".
Nightcat's look wasn't actually linked to Tigra of the Marvel universe. I didn't know of any well known female superheroes that was actually mutated with cat DNA. Most wore a costume that looked catlike in nature and either had some sort of technological enhancements to make them more cat like or just had abilities that were similar to a cat's.
Nightcat originally had a tuft of fur on the end of her tail like a lioness.
Her hair colour and style was largely inspired by Simba from "The Lion King".
Nightcat's physical features were thought of and sketched out first then Dana's was based on that.
Nightcat's healing factor was inspired in part by Wolverine of the X-Men.
